Photography Tips You've Never TriedPhotographs have various elements and you should learn to master and utilize these elements so you can turn out good photographs every time. The elements of a photograph are position, emphasis, perspective, and balance. This article will give you some pointers and photography tips so you can master digital imaging photography and begin producing well-executed and wonderfully composed photographs. The first element of a photograph is position. Photographers have a good rule for positioning their subjects in a photograph. This rule is called the rule of thirds and it states that you should draw three horizontal and three vertical lines in your photograph and place your subject in the lines' intersections. Basically, you should not place your subject at any of the three center frames; choose an off-center frame or frames. However, make sure that you do not neglect to emphasize your subject. Emphasis is achieved through different means. First, you must employ natural backdrops. Moreover, try taking photographs where the subject and the background naturally contrast. Finally you should also find natural pointers or lines that will draw the eye of the viewer to your subject. For instance, a good picture of a setting sun would be one where the reddish sun hangs suspended above two whitish tall church spires set against the backdrop of an uninterrupted skyline where sky meets the ocean. Perspective should still be considered, though. Perspective is that element in a photograph that will add an important dimension to your photograph. It will tell your photograph's viewer about how big, how small or how far your subject is. In the above example, you can include part of the sandy beach so your viewer will be able to comprehend how far the setting sun is. In another example, if you are going to take a picture of a waterfall, it would be best to get one of your crew to stand below the waterfall so the viewer will get an idea of how grand the subject is. When adding elements for perspective's sake, though, be sure to maintain good balance in your photograph. For maintaining balance, you can use the Golden Mean formula that was created by the Ancient Greeks. Take a rectangle and divide it into two equal parts by drawing a diagonal line connecting two of the non-adjacent points. Then, you have to draw another diagonal line that starts from one of the other points and connect it to a point in the first diagonal line such that it becomes perpendicular to the other line. To apply this to a photograph, simply juxtapose the figure of the golden mean to the rectangle of your photo. Each area should have one element in it. A picture taken with the golden mean in mind will look balanced and totally in harmony. You may be good at digital imaging and can make any photographic subject look fresh and beautiful because of your skills in image editing. Digital imaging photography, however, has two elements: imaging and photography. Thus, it would still be best if you employ these photography tips to achieve great photographic composition. If you can make mediocre photographs look good with your image editing skills, imagine how much better your digital photographs with be if you have good material to start with. |
